A case study by Dr. Chafic Safi, Centre Endodontique St-Laurent<\/em><\/h3>\n

A 75-year old male presented themselves to our office with a chief complaint: <\/span><\/p>\n

\n

\u201cMy dentist sent me for a root canal. I have calcified canals.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Analysis<\/h2>\n

Clinical examination revealed the presence of an extensive bridge, with tooth #24 serving as an abutment. <\/span>Tooth #24 responded negatively to cold and EPT and was tender to percussion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Radiological examination revealed the presence of calcified canals and an apical radiolucency.<\/span><\/p>\n

Diagnosis<\/h3>\n

The diagnosis was:\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/span>Pulpal necrosis and symptomatic apical periodontitis.<\/b><\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Treatment<\/h2>\n

The treatment options offered to the patient were:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Root canal treatment. Prognosis: Favorable.<\/li>\n
  2. Extraction. Prognosis: Favorable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Treatment Selection<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The patient consented for\u00a0root canal treatment<\/b><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

    The procedure was completed in 2 visits with placement of Calcium Hydroxide as an intra-canal medicament.\u00a0During the first visit, biomechanical instrumentation of the root canal system was completed using the XP-3D shaper<\/em> and finisher files.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t
