A case study by Dr. Chafic Safi, Centre Endodontique St-Laurent<\/em><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

A 45 year-old female presented to our office with a chief complaint:<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t chew on my lower back tooth. It hurts me a lot!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Analysis<\/h2>\n

Clinical examination revealed that tooth #47 was painful to percussion. The tooth also had a crown. Probing and mobility were within normal limits.<\/p>\n

Radiological examination revealed that tooth #47 had already a root canal treatment.\u00a0 There was also a post in the distal root.<\/p>\n

The presence of a radiographic radiolucency was suggestive of apical periodontitis.<\/p>\n

Diagnosis<\/h3>\n

The diagnosis was: previously treated tooth and symptomatic apical periodontitis.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Treatment<\/h2>\n

The treatment options offered to the patient were:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Intentional replantation. Prognosis: Favorable<\/li>\n
  2. Non surgical retreatment. Prognosis: Guarded<\/li>\n
  3. Extraction. Prognosis: Favorable<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Treatment Selection<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The patient consented to an\u00a0intentional replantation<\/b><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

    The treatment<\/span><\/h3>\n

    The procedure was completed under local anesthesia. The tooth was atraumatically extracted using special forceps (222AS by Karl Schumacher).<\/p>\n\n\t\t
